Google, common-sense and SEO

Backlinks are a blessing for your SEO strategies. But that’s true only for good backlinks. Here is a quick view of link building and why it is essential. After that, you can check out how to get good links.

What are link building and why should you invest in it?

Simply put, link building refers to acquiring hyperlinks or links from other sites to your website. Experts consider it an excellent way for users to navigate sites while searching for useful content.

Link building is an essential area of SEO. By going about it the right way, you can ensure an excellent long term strategy. A few years ago, it was a simple process, and people got away without much effort. Now, Google is much stricter. You need to put in the effort to do well.

Therefore, you should look into hiring an expert to handle link building for you. Preferably, get someone in your region, such as French SEO services, if you’re based in France.

What makes a link good?

Unfortunately, there is no clear definition that you can follow. Instead, a few factors or rules can help you get good backlinks.

Links from websites must be relevant to your topic

To consider a link as good, it needs to relevant to the page’s topic. To simply put, you need to build or earn a link from a web page that talks about a topic similar to the page it links to on your site.

Ask yourself a question before you build any link. That is, will the audience benefit from my link in any way?

For instance, having a site that talks about accounting software and building links on a travel website doesn’t make much sense.

Trustworthy sites are much better than spam sites

If your backlinks are from shady or spammy sites, you need to re-evaluate your strategy.

Not all backlinks are equal. Getting even a single no-follow link from a reputable site with high DA and PA can be much more beneficial than several do-follow links from spam sites.

Even if you tricked Google and somehow got a good ranking with spammy sites, it won’t last long. You could be out of the game the next time Google brings out a big update.

It is better to link inside the content

While getting a link anywhere on a reputable site is good, the link’s location can affect its worth.

Sometimes, people link in the footers, header, sidebars, and places like that around the page. However, these links don’t carry as much value as a link inside the content.

Other than the location, non-contextual links, the ones not inside the content, have other issues. For instance, if you’re using the same anchor in your author bios everywhere, Google may not like it because of duplicate content.
