The Covid-19 pandemic has crippled many businesses around the world. It forced many companies to close down. However, some survived the crisis, while others are even growing more than before the pandemic. While it seems counterintuitive, the pandemic opened up opportunities for a few businesses to thrive. If you plan to have your very own start-up, you can consider some of these small businesses that are not as affected during and after the pandemic.

Small construction businesses

The global pandemic and health safety standards have limited large-scale construction businesses. However, small-scale companies continue to operate amidst the pandemic. For instance, many homeowners will need repairs, making handyman services and general repair services sought-after. More so if repairs require special training, such as electrical circuits and heating and ventilation.

Some homeowners also paid more attention to their homes, leading to starting home improvements and renovations. As a result, many businesses tied to these services are also in demand. For instance, many homeowners in the UK are now starting to build decks for more enjoyment and comfort at home. In turn, landscaping and composite decking supply businesses become profitable.

If you want to delve in the construction industry, small businesses such as repair services, home renovation and improvement are also viable choices. You can also decide to retail construction supplies, from lumber, composites, to metals. Lastly, if you have any expertise in technical fields, such as plumbing and electrical works, you can offer your services as independent contractors.

Healthcare-related businesses

Among the industries in the UK, healthcare is the least affected. During the pandemic, healthcare services remain operational and in very high demand. As people will always need treatment and medication, especially amidst a global health problem, makes healthcare-related businesses profitable.

Likewise, even the smaller businesses in this industry continue to thrive. What are these businesses? For instance, many clinics that offer consultation on various fields are still profitable, such as general physicians, nutritionists, and dietitians are still sought-after. Many people also need home services that provide medical care for patients with chronic health problems.

Aside from the mentioned businesses, pharmacies, medical equipment suppliers, and other healthcare-related services also continue to do well even during the pandemic.

Financing and accounting businesses

Any business that deals with finances and accounting are necessary, regardless of the conditions. Despite being affected, big corporations such as banks, loan institutions, investment companies, and insurance remain stable during the pandemic. The same goes for small-scale businesses that still continue to operate during the crisis.

The pandemic also did not hit smaller businesses as hard as other industries. For instance, accounting services remain in demand. People will always need assistance to comply with their legal obligations. Accountants, tax advisors, and auditors are some profitable professions during the pandemic. If you are any of these, you can start your own business by setting up a consultation service. You can also offer your services online.

Home-based businesses

Home businesses continue to be profitable, especially during the pandemic. Unlike big corporations, the pandemic and the safety health protocols did not limit these businesses as much. While demand for different fields varies, some businesses have grown and thrived more than before.

For instance, individuals and other businesses alike still require services related to technology and information. Network security and setup, computer repairs, and database management are a few profitable IT-related businesses that you could consider. Marketing and digital services such as website building, online marketing and optimization, and customer support are also worth looking into if you want to start a business.

Aside from information technology and marketing, you can also start various home businesses in different industries. For instance, if you have the prerequisites, you can teach online as a private tutor or a professional lecturer on subjects. As mentioned, you can also become a consultant for different fields, whether its health, real estate, finance, or interior design.

Setting a home business is relatively easy. You don’t need huge investments. As long as you have the skills, experience, and willingness to learn and improve in a particular field, you will likely succeed.
