1. Determine your fashion audience

First, you must ask yourself who will be your fashion audience. To determine your fashion audience, you must know the style of clothing that you want to sell. If you don’t know what style of clothing to sell, you can ask yourself what age group of clothing are you interested in selling to.

For example, streetwear clothing is for teenagers. You can flip through fashion magazines to get some ideas on what type of clothing you want to sell. You can also get ideas online from places like Pinterest, Google Image, and Instagram. You may also be interested in selling clothes with a style that represent the culture of a race. Many people have also had success in selling retro and vintage clothes.

2. Brainstorm the products for your store

The next step is to brainstorm the products that you want to sell in your online clothing store. You can find product ideas by researching different brands of clothing. All you need to do is to go window shopping at several fashion boutique stores to get ideas. You should find products that not many people are selling because there will be many competitors to overcome. You will need to source your clothing from different places to stand out in the marketplace.

One way to attract customers is to sell clothes that are trending. People will always visit your online store to check out your products if you always update your inventory with clothes that are trending in the latest fashion. You can read blog posts on the fashion trends that will be popular in the current year to find out the latest clothing styles.  You can sketch your ideas on a piece of paper if you decide to create your custom clothing to sell.

3. Large inventory or focus on a particular product

You have the option to sell a variety of clothing or to focus on a particular category of clothing. Having a large variety of clothing in your store can increase your chances of getting a sale, especially when your store is new. If you decide to focus on a particular style of clothing, you can consider expanding your inventory by adding more clothes with different styles.

4. Sourcing the products

Now, you must decide how you are going to ship the products you list in your store. If you have a capital, you can purchase the products from your preferred online clothing store and sell them at a margin price. If you want to sell custom clothes, you can consider uploading your designs that will feature different clothing products.

5. Promote your online clothing store

It is not the end once you have uploaded your store. You will have to promote your online clothing store so that people know about its existence and will come to browse your products. What people usually do is to talk about it on social media, but this can only be effective if you have a lot of loyal followers. If you have a decent Instagram account, you can pin some of the clothes you are selling. You will need to get a model to pose for the photo.

You can get your friends or family members to pose as a model for the clothing you are selling. If you already have customers, you can create a video of happy testimonials from customers who enjoy wearing your products. You can create a catchy hashtag to promote your online clothing business on Twitter. You can also buy paid advertisements to advertise your new online clothing store.

6. Set a budget for your online clothing store

As a rule of thumb, always set a budget before you go about sourcing the products. You must ask yourself how much you are willing to spend on sourcing the products, and how much profits you want to make. You will also have to decide the inventory minimums to avoid overstocking on the products.

It is wise only to purchase just enough inventory to meet the estimated customer demands. If more people purchase the same product, you can reorder and ship to your customers.
