Startup ideas based on tech skills

#1. A developer of a SaaS product

A SaaS product as a startup is a trending solution that doesn’t require significant investment and is not associated with high risks. If you are a software developer, you can build a helpful tool for businesses (for example, online to-do lists, organizers, planners, or trackers) and sell it based on a subscription model to your target market.

One of the successful examples of SaaS products is Hygger, a project management tool for small and medium-sized companies that are not that tech-savvy. The key is to solve a particular problem. Hygger became successful because it was less sophisticated than Jira and more feature-rich than Trello.

You can choose a niche product, mobile application, game, or a funny tracker of anything (jank food, glasses of water, number of sit-ups, etc.).

#2.Outsourced website developer

If you can create a WordPress website or know appropriate programming languages, you can apply this knowledge to your startup. There are a lot of people interested in your work, so you should find a way to tell them about your services.

#3.Outsourced graphic designer

If you are good at graphic design and self-organisation, you can help companies with logos, banners, packages, and other visual tasks. You should register on special platforms for freelancers, such as Upwork, Fiverr, or Jobspresso, to start your own business. If you create amazing works in Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, or other programs, you can place it on special online resources, Shutterstock or Unsplash, and earn money online when someone downloads them.

#4.Outsourced technical specialist

There are many mid-sized companies and startups that require the help of the UI/UX designer, tester for their product, or SEO consultant but don’t have such a specialist in the staff.  You will be surprised, but people are ready to pay if someone will prepare a quality presentation for them!

#5. Outsourced copywriter or ghostwriter

If you want to work with texts, you can make content for websites, groups in social networks, blog posts. Also, you can write reports, articles, or books for high-profile clients as a ghostwriter: your client will get the credits, and you will get the money.

Startup-as-a-hobby ideas

If you have an interesting hobby, you can turn it into a lucrative business and get not only pleasure but also profit.

#6. Fitness/yoga/meditation instructor

If you are interested in a healthy and active way of life and have the needed knowledge about the human body, proper nutrition, and stress-reduction techniques, you can share this information with others. The active way of life stays trendy, so you can combine personal training with selling fitness and yoga products, consulting, or blogging.

#7. Photographer for photo stocks

If you like to take photos and are good at catching interesting moments, you can sell your works on photo stocks such as Shutterstock, Unsplash, and iStockPhoto. You will get royalties for every download of your picture. Also, you can create a portfolio with your works and sell photos through your website. Bear in mind though you’ll also be competing against free stock photo platforms, so you’ll need to create high grade imagery.

#8. Travel consultant

If you are passionate about travelling, choosing interesting routes, and successfully planing them, you can become a travel consultant! Create your blog or website, tell about your impressions, sell your help with preparing a vacation, building a route, or providing your guide services.

#9. Blogger on the YouTube channel/podcaster

You can share your knowledge of any niche sphere if you create a youtube channel or start podcasting. You should find your audience and give them quality content. The narrow specialisation will be the most successful solution and help you to gather constant followers. You can involve relevant sponsors and monetise your channel to get profit. Also, you can combine other ways of activity with blogging and create, for example, videos about travelling, repairing equipment, cooking, or practising yoga.

#10. Social media manager/influencer

All entrepreneurs understand the importance of social media. This is a tool that has a crucial influence on people’s minds. With the help of social media, companies can share information with potential clients, create and maintain brand awareness, and successfully sell products or services. But owners of small or medium-sized companies frequently don’t have time or knowledge on how to work with this instrument. So, if social media activity is your forte, you can make a profit with it. Also, if you have a lot of followers in your social network profile, you can contact some companies or brands and become their representative in social media.

Product-based startup ideas

This is a solution for those persons who like to create something interesting with their own hands and want to sell it in different ways.

#11. Food startup owner

If you have a background in cooking, you can offer some niche kind of food, for example, vegetarian or vegan dishes, healthy sweets, delicious pastry, etc. You can find your audience online, sell to supermarkets or buy a food truck, or start courses.

#12. Handmade master

People are delighted with nice things that make their home cosier and more convenient. It can be handmade candles, soap, funny socks, enamel pins, handcrafted jewellery, custom clothing, wooden furniture, etc. Your choice depends on your taste and skills.

#13. Technique repairer

This is a solution for those who have an eye for repairing cell phones, ebooks, etc. You will help people to get their devices working again. You can combine such kind of business with selling accessories, helpful or funny, for example, earphones, holders for headsets, protective glass, etc.

#14. Gift boxes maker

If you are not a creator but have a taste to match and combine things, you can help people choose gifts for their relatives, friends, and colleagues. Those can be sets of fruits, wine, tea, cosmetics, any combination. It seems simple, but according to recent research, such a kind of startups brought about $15 billion in revenue last year. Subscription boxes are taking over the world!

#15. Niche goods seller

People follow trends. You can use it to start your business. For example, now there is a tendency to use eco-friendly products and things and strive for “zero-waste”. You can offer something in this regard, say, bamboo toothbrushes, tissue shoppers, or organic vegetables and fruit. Eco-friendly products will stay in great demand in the future, so you can try to create your business and help the ecology.
